Cincinnati Ballet

The Cincinnati Ballet is offering Girl Scout Dance Badge Workshops and Performances.  The performances include the Nutcracker in December and Romeo and Juliet in February.  For questions contact Terry Honebrink 513-562-1114 or click here for the flyer. 

 

 

Carvel Ice Cream Cake Decorating Classes

Carvel Ice Cream located at 8177 Princeton-Glendale Rd. in Hamilton, Ohio is offering to host Girl Scout troops in their store for a cake decorating field trip. For a fee of $9 per Girl Scout Carvel will provide a L’il Love ice cream cake pre-whited and the girls would be able to decorate the cakes with all the different colors of icing, sprinkles, and gel piping for writing that are used to decorate all of Carvel's custom cakes. The girls will have about half an hour to decorate the cakes as they wish, then the cakes will be boxed put in our freezers to prepare the cakes to go home. While the girls are waiting for their cakes to refreeze, we will treat them to an ice cream cone with sprinkles! While the girls are there we can also show them how we make all of our ice cream, waffle cones, as well as all of our cakes. To take advantage of this great opportunity .

PAINT-n-PLAY

Paint-N-Play in West Chester provides fun, hands-on arts and crafts activities that can be used towards the Junior Ceramics and Clay badge, the Art in the Home badge, the Art to Wear badge, Yarn and Fabric Arts badge, or the Brownie Art to Wear Try-It.  A wide range of craft activities are available including painting pottery, spin art, tie-dyeing, and silk screened T-shirts, backpacks, bags and aprons.  For more information contact Tracy Schuster at 513-759-9400 or by e-mail at paintnplaywestchester@yahoo.com

Camp Kern Circle K Ranch

National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

Don’t miss out on the opportunity for field trips to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center FREE OF CHARGE for youth groups this summer. The program "Freedom Camp" is an opportunity for youth groups (a minimum of 10 youth), camps, youth organizations and summer school programs to spend either a morning or an afternoon doing tours designed for summertime. Anneliese von Oettingen School of Ballet

The Anneliese von Oettingen School of Ballet and Ballet Companies is doing a performance this spring of "Peter Pan".  The tradition of the ballet is to emphasize story-telling and they are interested in involving some Girl Scout groups.  They can provide a package of information on the history of ballet, some basic positions, information on the composers and on James Barrie, the author of "Peter and Wendy".  It is also possible for one of the students to come and demonstrate basic ballet to the troop, then the troop could come to the performance.  The website is www.avoballet.org .  The artistic director, Laura Hughes, can be contacted for more information at balletclassic@yahoo.com , or the studio manager, Michele Frey, can be reached at 513-481-0092.

Junior Jazzercise

The Cone in West Chester

Community Service Opportunity!

Need community service hours or a charity badge?  What better way to achieve that than by helping give the world the gift of sight.  The Gift of Sight program is conducted by Luxottica Retail (the parent company of LensCrafters, Pearle Vision and Sunglass Hut.)  Luxottica Retail collects used eyeglasses and hand-delivers eye care to people who cannot afford vision care all around the world.  They are asking for Girl Scout troops to volunteer for a couple of hours in their recycling center located in Mason to sort donated or new reader glasses for their international missions.  They have all the supplies needed for the event.  For upcoming dates, contact Lisette Martinez at lmartine@luxotticaretail.com or call her at 765-3557.  What a GREAT way to earn a community service badge!

OPERATION HAPPY SOCK

Operation Happy Sock creates and delivers catnip toys to homeless cats in animal shelters and foster homes.  Volunteers of all ages make simple toys, called "Happy Socks" by stuffing catnip and polyester fiberfill in the toe of a sock and typing a knot at the ankle.  Simple, but a GREAT catnip toy!

Ready to start Operation Happy Sock with your Girl Scout troop? Contact Martha Powers at happysock@cox.net or 703-383-9003 and ask for your Operation Happy Sock Info Kit.  You'll receive a Word document that includes ready to use signs for collecting sock donations (featuring "Hugger" the Happy Sock mascot), suggestions for finding affordable supplies locally, and step-by-step instructions for each phase of the project.

Waycross Community Media

We would like to extend a welcome to the Greenhills, Forest Park and Springfield Twp Troops (with girls 10 years and older) to visit Waycross Community Media and learn about the benefits to your troops.  If you are not familiar with Waycross, please visit our web site at www.waycross.org
Troops can schedule a tour of our facilities, learn about video production and how to operate a professional video camera.  This is a free opportunity for the girls to experience the fun and excitement of video production.

Greenacres Foundation provides naturalist-led environmental and agricultural program. Greenacres requires at least one month advance notice to schedule scout programs. Please contact the Director of Outdoor Education at 891-4227 to receive specific scheduling information. www.green-acres.org

The Hyde Park Gymnastics and Dance, an Olympic Standard facility that teaches gymnastics and dance from 1 year olds through adults has instructors that are Safety Certified by USA Gymnastics, the governing body of gymnastics has some interest in Girl Scout Troops coming in and earning a badge and are now offering classes for Girl Scouts.  They have availability on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday. Banana Boats

Ingredients:
1 Banana (not peeled)
Mini marshmallows
Chocolate chips
 

Preparation:
Peel banana down one side and cut a wedge into it. Place marshmallows and chocolate chips into the wedge, and cover with peel and aluminum foil. Put into coals for about 5 minutes.
You can be creative with different flavored chips and some peanut butter!
